Recently, the IDH India family came together in Manesar/Gurgaon for an unforgettable team-building activity that broke the mould of traditional corporate exercises. Instead of the usual trust falls and icebreakers, we embraced a vibrant and energetic Drum circle —a non-traditional team-building activity that left everyone energized, connected, and inspired.
IDH, The Sustainable Trade Initiative, has been actively promoting sustainable value chains in India since 2009 across various sectors, including cotton, tea, spices, grapes, palm, and apparel. Currently it is working on approximately 40 projects across 16 states in India, which includes responsible agrochemical use, smallholder inclusion and livelihoods, economic empowerment of women and marginalized communities, optimizing water use and social impact, sustainable manufacturing, worker safety, and ensuring living income.
To run all these huge project smoothly, IDH India makes sure they have got the best minds in collaboration.
Unlike conventional team-building exercises, a drum circle is an inclusive and collaborative experience that allows each participant to express themselves while contributing to a collective rhythm. This activity doesn't just build teams; it unites them on a deeper, more intuitive level.
As the IDH India team gathered in a circle, each person was given a drum or percussion instrument. With a few simple instructions, the group began to play together. What started as a series of tentative beats quickly evolved into a powerful, unified rhythm.
The beauty of a drum circle lies in its simplicity and accessibility. There are no wrong notes, and everyone has an equal role in creating the music. This fosters a sense of equality and shared purpose, breaking down barriers and encouraging open communication.
For the IDH India team, Drum Circle India provided a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues in a fun and non-competitive environment. It was about more than just playing music; it was about listening to each other, syncing up, and working together to create something harmonious.
"It made us forget everything and brought us all on one level. During the session, all we could think of was just one thing- Rhythm! Rhythm! Rhythm!", said Jagjeet Singh Kandal, Country Director at IDH India.
Jasmer Dhingra, Director- Programs at IDH India say, "Drum Circle left us with so much energy and priceless moments. For some of us who have experienced drum circle before, this was next level of energy and I loved sharing it with my colleagues."
This drum circle was more than just a team-building activity; it was a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, creativity, and shared purpose. As the beats of the drums echoed in the hearts of everyone who participated, a new rhythm was set for the IDH India team—one that will continue to inspire and resonate as we move forward together.
